Community Night
Article 3

Mike De Stefano- U10 Girls Travel Assistant Coach
George Kohlweiler- U9 Boys Travel Assistant Coach
This was a very intense 3 day course instructed by EPYSA and hosted by Rheems AA. There were 20 coaches from around Central Pennsylvania in attendance. Friday evening consisted of 3 hours of classroom work followed up by 9-5 sessions indoor on Saturday and Sunday at the Bear Creek gym. The coaches learned various teaching techniques through both theory and practical field sessions.
The coaches were required to develop and teach a lesson where the other coaches were the players. This was a lot of on field practical experience while being observed by "A" licensed coaches/trainers from EPYSA. The coaches worked extremely hard for these 3 days (not to mention the 3 hours of homework prior to the first class).
Please support our fundraising efforts as we head into the Spring program so we can continue to offer new and exciting activites.
We have an extremely dedicated group of coaches at Rheems Athletic Association. Make sure you tell them how much you appreciate what they do for our kids. The amount of time they give to our soocer program can not be understated.

With the Spring season quickly approaching we would like to share some exciting news about the activities taking place within Rheems Athletic Association.
For the last year one of the major goals of the new board of Rheems AA has been to focus on working with the other athletic associations in the Elizabethtown area to create the best sports environments for our kids. One of the things we felt was important was to not compete with each other, but rather provide one place to play each sport.
Softball:
As many of you may have heard, Elizabethtown Girls Softball, Conoy Softball and Rheems Softball have all come together to play under the Rheems AA umbrella. The new united softball program will be called Elizabethtown Fastpitch Softball.
Baseball:
Rheems AA has decided to work with Elizabethtown Boys Club and combine our baseball programs under the Boys Club umbrella. All baseball activities will be managed through Elizabethtown Boys Club at www.etownboysclub.com
Soccer:
One of things we have decided to do as a soccer program is to change our name to Elizabethtown United. We still operate under Rheems AA but we think re-branding our name is important especially with the relationships we have started to build with Elizabethtown area schools. We are an organization with kids coming from many surrounding communities and we feel the “United” name change embraces what we are all about. We have made a minor change to our logo to reflect this new name and anyone ordering uniforms or apparel from this point forward will have the updated logo displayed. If you purchased a uniform in the Fall with the previous logo, those uniforms will continue to be used.
Registration for our Spring 2014 soccer season is open online at soccer.rheemsaa.org
It has been exciting to see the various organizations putting aside past history to come together to make these changes. We believe this will allow for stronger programs that provide better opportunities for our kids. It is a great time to be part of any sport in the Elizabethtown Area and we look forward to this upcoming season.
Thank You,
Craig Hummer and Joe Carter

Elizabethtown Fastpitch Co-Commissioners
A Messge From The President

February 2014
Rheems Athletic Association is an all volunteer organization that serves the families and children living within the greater Elizabethtown community. We have over 800 members participating in our four sporting activities (soccer, softball, lacrosse and volleyball). The children participating range from ages 3 to 18 and many of our families are in their second generation of involvement with Rheems Athletic Association.
In the past year, Rheems Athletic Association has gone through many changes to move the organization forward. These changes include:
1) The integration of softball between Elizabethtown Girls Softball, Conoy and Rheems into one umbrella that will be Elizabethtown Fastpitch Softball.
2) Expansion of the board of directors to include co-commissioner positions for each sport and the addition of a fundraising commissioner position.
3) Partnering with Elizabethtown Boys Club to consolidate baseball under one group at the Boys Club.
4) Focus on safety through education for volunteers regarding concussion training.
5) Improving coaching education opportunities.
The main goal for each of the changes and any change going forward will be what's in the best interest of the children that are participating in the Rheems AA programs. From day one, this has been the recurring theme at board meetings and the question is asked often when evaluating alternatives to make the best decision.
As an all volunteer organization, the programs we offer are only made possible by the countless hours of volunteering from our parents. Whether it happens to be coaching, serving on the board, helping with the snack stand or volunteering for field maintenance, it would not be possible without the volunteer efforts. Personally, I have been involved in volunteering since 2006 and for all those involved; I offer a sincere gratitude of thanks on behalf of the Board for the time you have committed to Rheems AA and our children.
We currently have open board positions that include the Treasurer, Lacrosse co-commissioner and Volleyball co-commissioner. This is in addition to many other areas where assistance is needed throughout the sports and organization. If you have wanted to get involved and were not sure how to go about it, please reach out to me at president@rheemsaa.org and I would be happy to talk.

Message from the Desk of the President

Message from the Desk of the President
March 2014
With a change in the weather recently (even if it was only for a few days) and the snow starting to melt (finally) so that we can see the grass in our yards and fields again, it was a nice reminder that the Spring season is just around the corner for our sports. As we move into March, we will see our children move from inside the area gyms out onto the fields. This will include:
- Elizabethtown Fastpitch Softball will see the girls from age 5 to 14 take to the ball fields.
- Soccer practices for our boys and girls will begin in preparation for the seasons that will begin in April.
- Lacrosse for boys and girls will again take to the fields behind Rheems Elementary School.
Not to be outdone, opening day for softball will now see our softball fields used in ways they have never been used before. Opening day is a special day for the kids as they officially begin their season. Personally, I look forward to seeing the integration of the EGSA, Rheems and Conoy programs under one umbrella. Those involved in getting the program to this point (lead by Mike Hamilton, Brian Heffleger, Sean Burton Chris Geesey and Roger Barber) deserve a high note of praise. Many hours of dedication went into coordinating this change for each organization. All along, the intent was to build a better softball program for the girls within the greater Elizabethtown community and now we get to see that in action.
Lacrosse continues to see their numbers swell and it is easy to see why it is one of the fastest growing sports in America. Mark Weissend has been at the helm as our lacrosse commissioner overseeing both the boys and girls programs. Mark has a passion for lacrosse and Rheems AA is fortunate to have someone that is so committed to the sport leading our children. With the recent expansion of the board to include a co-commissioner at each sport, we have an immediate opening for a co-commissioner of lacrosse. If you are reading this and are interested in getting involved, I would encourage you to reach out to Mark or myself and we can pass along more information of what would be involved.
As always, I welcome any questions, comments and concerns you may have. The intent has always been about the children and improving the programs we offer to them. Please feel free to stop me on one of the fields or contact me via email at president@rheemsaa.com
